Shabby Chic Tag

I am in LOVE with these Julie Nutting doll stamps. They take a while to either colour or paper piece but the results are really worth it.

shabby girl nautical tag

I love how the hair turned out on this one. I think I used E53,55,57 and maybe E49 for the very darkest areas. It’s hard to see the very fine detail but the legs are also paper pieced which is why the colour is different from the skin I usually colour. I added Copics for shading that matched the paper’s tone. In case you are wondering, yes, this is a very large stamp. I handmade the tag but it is close to a large standard tag, about 6.5” x 3”.

The paper is from an older Webster’s Pages; background (made of several papers), lobster paper (distressed and covered with Rock Candy crackle paint) and the paper piecing papers all come from the paper pack. I carefully cut out the paper around the tag reinforcer so it would show through. The little boats were coloured with Copics too.

I messed up the stamping of the feet, I got a double line, so I made the shoes slightly higher to cover that up. The stars are covered with a Wink Of Stella pen. The sand is a product called Mudd Puddles; it’s basically sand in glue in a small jar so you can apply it like molding paste. It doesn’t apply as smoothly but it is fun.

Enjoy, Rebecca

Warm Winter Wishes Gift Bag for WMS PJ Party

PAJAMA-PARTY-LOGO

This is for the Wrap It Up Warm challenge to make a gift bag or box with a cozy feel. I hope the ‘hugs’ sentiment is sufficiently cozy.

snowman gift bag

I used a Wink of Stella pen on the swirl on the patterned paper. The handles came from another gift bag, I have no idea how long it’s been since I saved them but it reinforces that my hoarder ways are sometimes quite useful! (Well, I am a saver but it’s not so bad as hoarder status… yet!)

The base of the box/bag is a cracker box. I modified it since it was too big as is. I just cut it down so that it was less than 6” each dimension because I had originally meant to use 6x6” paper on it. But as it turned out, I used 12x12” paper and ended up using less (ok, only a smidge less) than a full sheet to cover the entire thing! Yeah! I even cut the fancy tag shape from the remaining paper! I added ink to it to darken it and make the silver EP stand out. I used the silver EP on the snowflake too.

I hope you have fun visiting other stops linked to the PJ party!

Enjoy, Rebecca

Shabby Roses Thinking of You Card

I made this cad for the Wednesday SSS challenge that just ended. Nuts, when am I going to learn I have to post these right away! Ugh!

shabby rose TOY card

This card was a struggle that I don’t often find when making shabby cards. I started by using a fancy tag die that I recently bought. It needed to have a larger middle part for stamping the sentiment so I partially die cut both ends leaving a gap in the middle that I hand-cut to connect them. But it just didn’t work right with the lace and ribbon I REALLY wanted where I arranged it. The fancy end on the left just didn’t fit well. It’s a pretty big die cut. So I ended up cutting off the fancy ends. After all that finicky die cutting!

The vellum I used was too white so I airbrushed it with an E53 Copic marker. Then I still felt it didn’t stand out enough so I edged it first with a Wink of Stella glitter pen but that didn’t look right, too uneven. So I finally swiped the edges of the vellum with embossing ink and dipped it in embossing powder. Why the uneven EP looks good but the uneven Stella didn’t, I’ll never know. The ribbon doesn’t appear to match but it does IRL.

If you look really carefully, there are a few tiny mirrored bits on the lace. The light only reflected on two of them, they look like dark dots. They are the centers of bright shiny gold sequins. I thought they were pretty so I am going to use them here and there. There are two on the sentiment panel too. The sequins were given to me AGES ago and I ignored them until now. I even forgot I had them! I’m so happy I didn’t throw them out!

Enjoy, Rebecca

All Neutrals for Mojo Monday and Shabby Tea Room

Wow, it seems like ages since I created for any online card challenges! I’ve been really not doing so great since the weather has gotten colder here in Canada. We’ve even had snow though it never stays this early.

neutrals shabby card

I dyed the lace for this card. It was white before I added berry tea. It ended up being much darker than I wanted but it was perfect for the tones in this card. The flower is two layers I put together from a package of Recollections flowers. I stamped some ivory cardstock messily with a script stamp for some texture. It’s hard to see but I inked the edges of the card base with gold paint pen which is why the top of the brown lace looks different. The paint is shiny and reflects on the lace.
