Papertrey July Blog Hop Challenge–Pretty Posies

PTI blog hop logo

I had such fun slowing down to make this card. I was so rushed during the Saturday’s Stamp-a-Faire though it was very fun. I took my time and just when I thought I was done, I added something else and I am THRILLED with it!

PTI July blog hop

The challenge was to use the colours shown below in the inspiration photo. I only had the green and coral colours so I had to hunt to find this yellow paper that fortunately had both yellows in it! YEAH! I tried to use the rule of threes on this but I don’t have three yellows. I debated adding a yellow button somewhere but decided against it because I couldn’t becide where to put it. Maybe in the white space to the left of the sentiments? Hmm… I’d love to hear your thoughts on the issue!

I did make a small mistake; I am fairly new to PTI card stock. I grabbed a scrap of green for the leaves and the panel under the lace. When I put away the rest of the scrap and one other, I realized they were different, the one I used was darker. Ooops! I had used Ripe Avocado instead of chartreuse. Bummer! Too late to change it now.

SFYTTjul2012sketch1

I also used this month’s SFYTT on this card but I basically cut off the bottom so it would be a landscape design instead of portrait. Interesting how some sketches are thrown off my altering them but others are still awesome!

If you enjoyed this card, I hope you will visit again. I have subscription thingies on my sidebar. Have fun on the rest of the blog hop!

Enjoy, Rebecca

PTI Stamp-a-Faire Challenge–Handmade Embellishments

This DIY badge is for making your own embellishments. I rarely use store-bought bellies that can be handmade. So I had fun choosing which tutorial to try out. But since I was short of time, I went to an easy one, layered butterflies.

SAF butterfly bellie tag

I only have two butterfly dies so I had to use one twice but you can barely see it in the photo; look at the top right of the pink butterfly. You will see a tiny bit of moss peeking  out.  Unfortunately, it is really late here and I am hurrying to get to bed so I can’t take another. But it looks cute!

Enjoy, Rebecca

RECIPE
Stamps:
Mega Mixed Messages, Label Basics
Ink: memento toffee crunch
Paper: all PTI
Accessories: berry button, label die, small butterfly die-PTI, large butterfly die-Sizzix

PTI Stamp-a-Faire Challenge-Card Set

This is my entry for the Correspondence Badge, Card Set. I love the design that Melissa Phillips created; I had to substitute a lot but I think you can see her inspiration.

SAF card set

Here’s my set all together. I can’t believe I managed to get a decent shot of them all together!

SAF card set closeup

In the close up you can see the tiny bit of shine I added from glitter in the heart within the butterfly die cut. I decided to use Scor-Tape behind the die cut instead of liquid glue to jazz up my design a bit; I love the subtle way it catches the light.

PTI Stamp-a-Faire Challenge–Friendship Bracelet

This was a fun challenge. Amazing that they thought to make a die for paper beads! I didn’t get a change to glaze my beads for durability but I will when I get some clear nail polish.

SAF friendship bracelet

I actually made a few beads a bit smaller. I put some of the die cuts back through my Cuttlebug with one side over the cutting edge to make the die cut narrower which makes the finished beads shorter. And here is a closeup…

SAF friendship bracelet closeup

You can see the polka dotted bead is much smaller than the one below it.

PTI Stamp-a-Faire Challenge–Limited Supplies

I had to think and rethink this card to use so few supplies. Especially since I am not a huge fan of simply chartreuse. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. This badge is called Craft Conservation.

SAF limited supplies

The only stamp set ‘allowed’ was Natural Beauties and I’m not a huge fan of the style of the flowers. However, I love the butterfly, leaves and some of the smaller accent shapes. I used the tiniest flower to add interest to my HS cardstock panel.

Enjoy, Rebecca

Natural Beauties

Paper: Aqua mist, Hawaiian Shores, Simply Chartreuse, white CS-PTI

PTI Stamp-a-Faire Challenge–Mini Book

Here’s my mini book aka Memory Preservation Badge.

SAF mini album

This is one of my first projects specifically for my baby Teddy. I am going to add photos of him. I followed the video fairly closely except for the covers. I wanted to leave room for some dimensional embellishments so I made my cover 3/4” at the spine and used only one sheet. The only adhesive holds the envelopes in place. I will adhere the cover in place after I am sure I’m finished embellishing it which definitely isn’t yet.

Enjoy, Rebecca

RECIPE
Stamps:
CTMH
Paper: envelopes-Clear Bags of Canada, DP-PTI, ivory CS-SU!, kraft CS-PTI
Ink: chocolate-SU!
Accessories: Copics, sticker letters-Basic Grey, Creative Memories, tab die-PTI

PTI Stamp-a-Faire Projects–Knots Badge

This Saturday, I participated in PTI’s online stamping event, Stamp-a-Faire. First up is Ribbon Techniques Challenge aka Knots Badge.

SAF ribbon bookmark

I used the tutorial for ruffled ribbon behind a die cut. I backed it with another die cut and added a brad through the back into it. To use the bookmark, you slip the page between the die cut and the bookmark base. That’s why I used a brad, for strength and as a substitute instead adhesive which might stick to the pages.

As much as I created this in a hurry as I knew my SAF time was limited as I had a graduation party to go to, I am pretty happy with this one!

Enjoy, Rebecca

RECIPE
Stamps:
Natural Beauty-PTI
Paper: aqua mist, white CS-PTI
Ink: Archival black-Ranger, Moss, aqua-PTI
Accessories: circle, filigree die-PTI, brad-stash

Papertrey Ink Make It Monday Roll the Die Challenge

I don’t usually do the Make It Monday PTI challenges but this one really spoke to me. You have to use a die as in dice, not a paper cutting die, to help you choose what products, stamps and sketch to use! I LOVE a good challenge!

PTI die challenge

You can check out the challenge here PTI Roll the Die Challenge. My work sheets are below. I used an iPhone app to ‘roll the die’ and circled each element as I rolled. I decided to photograph them so you’d know I didn’t cheat! I ended up working with: horizontal layout, sketch 2, Hibiscus Burst, Raspberry Fizz, white and black; Tiny Treats:Valentine, BB: Hearts and twine. I was thrilled by everything except the sketch, yikes! and having to make it horizontal, which as you’ll read below, I forgot as I created.

PTI die challenge note1

I have to admit, I made a few mistakes. I nipped the top off one of my white cardstock circles but I didn’t redo it as I knew it would be hidden under the ribbon. But, when I stamped and positioned it, I forgot I was supposed to use a horizontal layout! I was already finished when I realized so I turned the cupcake and sentiment circles and the heart button. But oops, now the hearts are sideways and I can’t turn it, A-because the little flaw would show and B-the adhesive I used to stick the ribbon is pretty heavy duty. I think I’d even have a hard time removing it to put in a new circle!

PTI die challenge note2

I also would have flipped the sketch right to left if had I planned it from the beginning. I really like any notched element like the ribbon to point towards the right. Is that weird? Is that because I am right handed? Because we read right to left? To be honest, I think I’ll flip it back. Everything worked out so well except that single, annoying element I forgot. I feel like this challenge whupped my butt! You may have noticed that my pink ink doesn’t look quite right. I assure you that it looks fine IRL!

Enjoy, Rebecca

Ink: pink-SU!, Memento black, Archival ink
Paper: Raspberry Fizz, Hibiscus Burst, white, black CS

Kitten in a Teacup Double Challenge Card

I needed a shabby chic card for a swap so I combined it with two challenges, Mojo Monday and Shabby Tea Room.

kitten in tea cup

I used an embossing folder I recently got for the panel under the main design elements. I wanted a bit of interest in the background without overwhelming the soft and shabby papers. I added white ink to highlight the pattern.

TSTR 121

The kitten is coloured with Copics to give her a soft, shabby tabby feel. I used pink/peach rick rack to mimic the ruffled icing ribbons in the inspiration photo.

Mojo248Sketch

I turned the sketch but otherwise stayed pretty true to it ( just rotating it and flipping it). Something I noticed the judges of Mojo Monday tend to like! The entries they choose almost always include all the elements in the same places and in the same proportions. Something I struggle with! Click on either challenge photo for a link to their blog posts.

I’ve got lots to do to get ready for a congregation BBQ tomorrow so this was a super fast post! Let me know if you need any more details!

Enjoy, Rebecca
