Mojo and Make It Monday Challenge Card

THIS A SPOILER ALERT! REBECCA, DO NOT READ THIS POST!

I am going to type everything at the top of this post so my BFF Rebecca (yeah, same name, I know!) doesn’t see it before she closes this page.

This card uses the Mojo sketch for this week and also meets the requirements for this week’s PTI Make It Monday to make a shaker card using dies. I hadn’t thought to use dies before and I really had a fun time with it. I think this also qualifies for the JustRite colour challenge if I still have time to enter. ETA Darn, missed it, again!!!

I used Labels 1 Nesties for the outer frame and PTI’s heart die for the inside. I had a sheet of foam dimensional material that I cut instead of fun foam. The acetate sheet comes from stamp packaging. Way to recycle right?

Mojo225Sketch

Hopefully this is down far enough on the page that she won’t see it!

teddy bear mojo225 sfytt

Isn’t that ice cream paper the cutest?? I made the heart button with another PTI heart die. The little words inside the shaker box are from Mega Mixed Messages and I hand cut them. Also in the box is clear micro beads and some glitter, a mix of white and gold I think, I bought it like that. The bear is paper pieced and shaded with Copic markers. Actually, I though the paper needed muting so I coloured the whole image with E71.

My girlfriends threw me the best Teddy Bear themed baby shower in honour of my new baby, Theodore, Teddy for short. I love it! Rebecca even bought honey bears for everyone and HANDCUT 30 or 40 bear shaped tags! WOW! So the shaker words say ‘wish’, ‘friend’, ‘merci’ and ‘thanks’. I took a photo of how I layered the shaker box so if you’d like to see, just let me know.

Enjoy, Rebecca

Sketch for You to Try January

I am not good at remembering to do things, at all. But I am going to TRY to do all 12 sketches this year for SFYTT. I hope I manage. I have a reminder in my iPhone but who knows…

01 12 sfytt sweet peas

I used dies from Heartfelt Creations Miniature Rose to make the flower. I got it from Joan’s Gardens. Its really pretty easy, the die cuts 6 flowers with holes in the center and a star shape for the petals. You shape the flowers, the inner one (or ones) cup inward and the rest outward. The very inner petals are glued together to form the bud. I only cupped one flower inward and glued it but next time I will cup at least 2, maybe 3 inwards, glue the first into the bud then partially glue one more layer of petals near the bottom only as well.

January PaperTrey Ink Blog Hop

I love this blog hop but haven’t participated in a while. It’s so hard to create something in time with only one day notice! (Unless the topic is posted in advance somewhere I am not aware of, please let me know if it is.) So I often miss out. But this time, I already made a card that qualifies that I hadn’t posted yet, NO WAY! Oh yeah, WAY!

button btq easel card
The challenge was to find your favourite card from 2011 that features PTI products, then to CASE yourself using that card as inspiration. I absolutely love Button Boutique and had a blast playing with it when I first got it. The original post is HERE.You can see the other button cards I made that day HERE.

pti mojo button card
I actually made this for last week’s Mojo Monday sketch but as is typical with me, I forgot to post it in time to link it up. I drive myself crazy doing that! And I remembered only 40 minutes late. Sad smileBut now that I see it will work perfectly for this month’s blog hop, I am not so disappointed in myself. Smile

pti mojo button card bow macro

I really had fun making this stick pin. I decided to go very sewing themed with it once I found that the charm I picked would go on the pin when I bent the charm ring back. I was going to bend it back all the way flat against the back but when I got it half way, I got the brilliant inspiration to slide it on a corsage pin. A mini thread spool quickly followed as it was sitting in the same bellie container as the charm. I store my bellies by theme if it has a theme and by type, eg: brads, buttons etc if it doesn’t. Some things are subdivided by colour as well if I have too many for one container.

pti mojo button card button macro
This is a close-up of the button card. I used a broken vintage MOP (Mother of pearl) button and the others are from PTI. The brown one looked too new and perfect so I scuffed it up with a nail file. I really like these colours together, cocoa, chocolate and baja by SU! (I apologize for the weird colour cast to these photos, I tried to adjust the colour but I am not using software with an auto white balance adjustment so I could only go more blue or more pink,  this was the closest to neutral I could get. I actually do better photographing at night as usual!)

button btq easel card closeup

Here’s a close-up of the original card’s button card. I think this is baja again, LOL! I wanted each button to look different so I either threaded differently or placed them at different angles. But I really embellished the plain white button with embroidery thread making it look like a little flower! Awww, so cute right? The pink part is a French knot, easy to learn to do; I’m sure there are zillions of instructions on the web or on YouTube if you’d like to try this. A small detail but card making is all in the details right?

If you enjoyed this project, please visit again or subscribe. I have RSS and email sub widgets on my sidebar. I don’t always post regularly as I have a 1 month old so bear with me!

Enjoy, Rebecca

Hero Arts Thinking of You Card

I bought one of the new Hero Arts sets that includes stamps and matching dies. The dies are unique in that they cut right at the very inner edge so no guessing where it is going to cut like dies with the cutting edge in the middle. Of course, then there is no way to stencil or emboss so it’s a trade off.

ha think you levy
I sincerely apologize for the icky colour cast. I have come to realize that photographing my cards in the daytime in my light box is never going to work. The lights I use have a very yellow cast and the light in my room is daylight so quite blue. The mix seems to confuse my camera sensor in a very nasty way. I don’t have software that will auto correct and the manual adjustments I made didn’t help much. I’d take another photo but I already gave the card away. Sigh… I hope you can use your imagination to get rid of the bluishness.

The authentic colours are celery, banana and apricot in the background, pretty in pink and regal rose for the flower and celery and olive for the leaves, all from SU! I used markers to colour the flower and then spritzed the stamp lightly with pearlized water I made from Perfect Pearls. Next time, I’ll use a bit more water as I wish it had blended a bit better. I was inspired by a card I found by Melissa Bickford posted Jan 14th on Just Dandy. Thanks Melissa!

This card says Thinking of You but I used it as a sympathy card. I stamped a sentiment from JustRite stamps inside. A dear friend lost a brother and sister within the space of a month. Sadly, I didn’t know about the brother so the card only says sister inside but they get the idea.

Enjoy, Rebecca

Gift Set for a Friend

I’ve mentioned before that I have a friend who is battling cancer. I made her a gift basket a while back and I posted the card I made for her. I didn’t have time to make everything I had intended to add to the basket so I finally finished it this week. I am entering this in the Moxie Fab Around the House Challenge to use something from around the house. I used coffee filters.

donna gift set 1_thumb[1]

I made her a notepad, a sticky note pad, a bookmark…

donna gift set 5 book pencil holder_thumb[1]

… a decorated composition notebook, a decorated pencil, a clip and a pencil holder. I made the flowers with dyed crinoline, tulle and coffee filter layers. They were cut with a 5 petal flower dies by Heartfelt Creations. They are just like Spellbinders dies and come in a set of 7! I dyed and scrunched the layers before they dried. The crinoline in particular scrunches really small so I had to flatten the layers a bit before using them. I stamped and dyed the book binding tape. I was surprised how well the adhesive held, I highly recommend this product!

The pencil holder is a simple folded ribbon. I folded the ribbon and sewed it to make a pocket; the top front edge folded over so it was sewn in to finish it. The upper area is also folded over and the end tucked in when I sewed the rest which leaves a large loop at the top. It looks decorated but what you see is the top of the pencil with a large flower on it. The pencil also has pink ribbon wrapped around the top half. I wrapped the clip in patterned paper and decorated it with a matching chipboard bird and a coffee filter flower. I kept the sticky note holder very simple and flat in case she wants to put it in the book.

donna gift set 7 book closeup_thumb[2]

The notebook uses a doily cut with a PTI doily die layered with more handmade flowers, buttons, pearls and a silk ribbon bow. The leaves are also made from coffee filter. To get the variegation on the leaves, I pressed celery and olive ink pads on my non-stick craft mat. I spritzed with pearlized water and pressed the leaves into the celery ink. Then I dragged the edges in the olive ink. The lace was made on my mom’s sewing machine with her embroidery hoop. It was made using wash out stabilizer so really all it is is thread in the end. Pretty nice huh? For some reason she didn’t use it so passed it on to me! Yeah!

donna gift set 2 notepad_thumb[2]

Next is the notebook. The colours aren’t very accurate in this photo. The green cardstock cover isn’t quite as yellowish and neither is the flower; it looks way too peachy. IRL it is slightly corally but definitely pink. Sigh…

donna gift set 3 notepad closeup_thumb[1]

There is more lace peeking out from under the flower and I stamped the ‘note to self’ stamp all over the blush coloured paper at the top in different directions making it look like patterned paper. I CASEd a notebook design by Mish Wooderson of Mish Mash; credit where credit is due. I LOVE her notepad layouts.

donna gift set 4 bookmark_thumb[1]

This bookmark is so simple that I don’t think it needs much explaining. I have no idea what colour the mist is as I made it ages ago and since I didn’t use it up, I just saved it. Maybe regal rose with a bit of burgundy thrown in seems to ring a bell?? I was happy with the collagey feel I ended up with as I really try hard for this style often and don’t usually manage to get something I like. The butterfly was coloured with Copics.

donna gift set 6 box_thumb[1]

This last photo shows a box I made ages ago along with some of the new things I’ve made.  I was going to add the box to the gift basket I made but it wouldn’t fit. So when I designed this gift set, I decided to use the same DP pack, Botanique by American Crafts, to make everything.

Enjoy, Rebecca

My Favourite Things ATC

This is one of my favourite ATCs I’ve ever made. Interestingly enough it was for a swap called My Favourite Things-make an ATC inspired by the song from Sound of Music. It really isn’t a traditional ATC though. This is what it looks like before you open it. my fave things ATC tied

So as you can see, it looks like a ‘brown paper package tied up with string’ and inside…

my fave things ATC open

…is a collection of things from the song. The rose has glossy accents on it in specific spots to look like rain drops, as in ‘raindrops on roses’. Then we have a ‘cream coloured pony’, a ‘white dress with blue satin sash’ and a bee from ‘when the bee stings’. They’re a bit hard to see but in front of the pony is ‘snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes’ which I made silver in reference to ‘silver white winters’. The little tag lists the things from the song in case it wasn’t clear. Once I was done, I really wanted to keep this one!

Floral Cupcake Matchbox

I apologize if I’ve posted this before. I have a folder labeled ‘not posted’ but I am bad about removing photos from it after I do post! I searched for keywords and didn’t find it so I think it’s new here.

floral cupcake matchbox front

I used Liquid Pearls here in a couple places. Once for the icing dots around the edge of the cupcake…

And again on the edge of the box. I traced a scallop on the edge and went over it with Liquid Pearls then added the dots. Looks like a cake decoration design. The cupcake is paper pieced with cardstock and DP.

Ignore This!

I wanted to add this photo to Pinterest (Gotta Get That folder!) and I forget where I saw it online so I'm posting it here. Hard to find very baby-ish paper these days. For older babies and kids yes, but for really little ones, not so much.

Mojo Moments Card

I needed a bunch of thank you cards for the lovely professionals who cared for Teddy and me in the hospital. I had several great nurses and my OB was great too so I did an assembly line.

I used Mojo Monday 222 sketch for this card. I really like this layout and I’m certain I’ll use this again.

Snowman Gift Card Holder

Scroll down to see a photo of my NEW BABY!!

Even though I haven’t been posting here, I have been crafting still. Just too tired and/or busy to blog-sorry! This was for a swap I hosted on Swap-Bot to make a winter themed Gift Card Holder (GCH). I thought that by making it winter themed, it would work for any holiday or celebration.

snowman GCH

It is a trifold holder that' I’ve used before and it has a curved part (under the snowman) that can tuck into a slit cut in the lower half but I chose to omit the slit this time and use a Velcro coin to hold it closed. I can’t tell you how often I’ve made a gate fold card or a holder like this and I inevitably forget and add adhesive to the area that shouldn’t have any! Yeesh!

The snowman is stamped in three parts, one for each ball but the lower one also has the snowflakes included. I really think they should have included a large ball without the snowflakes so they could be stamped in different colours. So I stamped it in baja then traced the large ball with a black marker to match the other balls. They were stamped separately rather than masking where they overlap and adhered together. The hat was done separately too. I used Stickles in white and blue to accent the snowflakes both on the base of the snowman and on the blue base and the hat band.

Enjoy, Rebecca

Welcome Teddy Bear!

I can’t believe it’s been almost three weeks and I’m only now getting around to letting you all know that my baby arrived safely! I hope you understand that I’ve been enjoying him so much I haven’t spent ANY time on the computer!

IMG_7865

Introducing Theodore Alexander Quinn Ednie born December 18, 2011 at 1;32am weighing 7lbs 8oz. Isn’t he perfect?  He is being called Teddy for short or Teddy Bear by my 4 1/2 yo. Everything went very well I am happy to report. No epidural or pain meds just like I planned though I had a potential complication near the end so I had to switch from my midwives to an OB and that was disappointing. We thought about going home later the same day but I decided to stay one night as I had a private room at the end of a long quiet corridor and I KNEW it wouldn’t be so quiet at home! He isn’t quite 2 days old in the photo.

My 4 1/2 yo is being quite good about the baby. I was worried he might be very jealous but he is really in love with his little brother. My other son is almost 11 and has been through this before so has taken it in stride. SO far, hubby has been home since he was born and honestly, I am NOT looking forward to being on my own with all of them starting Monday.

I hope you are all thrilled for us!

Rebecca
